We've got a great history,
and even better future!

With the third generation of Moody's behind the wheel, we have gained valuable experience across the board to deliver excellence, always.

Delivering excellence since 1947

1947

In 1947, David Moody returned from serving his country during the Second World War, and returned to his job at the local Co-op delivering bread and cakes to the locals in Bedlington by horse and cart.

Shortly afterwards David saw an opportunity to buy a household coal round. Before long David's coal round included collecting sea-coal from
the North East coastline and delivering to customers. He also began delivering coal to local businesses and he branched into transporting bricks.

1953

By 1953, David operated five vehicles, employing six people. It was transporting bricks that initially exposed David to the haulage industry,
with him bringing bricks back from Cumbria as a back load. Towards the late 1950's David's business continued to see growth, and in 1960 the company D. Moody (Haulage) Ltd was born.

1971

The business flourished and in 1971 there were over 40 vehicles in constant use and a full-time workforce of over 45. In addition to our core business as coal merchants, we had introduced the sale of DIY materials and our fleet had expanded to include tippers, flatbeds and skips.

1980

Due of the closure of the mining industry in the 1980's and the decline
of coal sales in general, D. Moody (Haulage) Ltd began looking at alternative sources of revenue and activities.

1990

In 1990, the company entered into a partnership with British Rail to develop an overnight parcel operation called Track 29. Although this no longer exists, it was the catalyst into our current work within the overnight multi-drop market.

1995

In April 1995, the company made a commitment to Investors in People. This was viewed by the directors as a tool to assist us in refocusing our business strategy due to our changing market, environment and the requirements to retrain our staff.

1999

Moody's joined the Pall-Ex network to improve transportation of freight across the country.

2005

We purchased and relocated to our current 7-acre site at Bolam Business Park, Cramlington in May 2005.

2007

We made the decision to modernise the trading business name and re-branded in 2007 to Moody Logistics & Storage. However, we're affectionately known in and around the North East area as Moody's.

2019

In October 2019 we were delighted to become a shareholder member of the Pall-Ex network, in an acquisition deal which saw founder Hilary Devey CBE, bought out by a group of members. The acquisition, believed to be the first of its kind, provides UK and European members the unique opportunity to be involved in the development of the No.1 network for quality. The management team at Pall-Ex have also committed to shares within the company.

Present day

Joining the Pall-Ex network in June 1999 was a step in the right direction for Moody Logistics and Storage to build on our successful haulage business. As one of the founding members of the Pall-Ex network we have watched the network grow and become the number one pallet network for quality in the UK, achieving ISO 9001:2015 accreditation in Quality Management System.

Today, we are a FORS bronze accredited business providing award-winning delivery solutions. We provide dedicated loads or pallet network transport to customers across the UK. Through Pall-ExConnect we're also proficient in delivering pallets to 30 different countries across Europe which has extended our service offering. With over 30 vehicles in our fleet, we're a business that is small enough to care, but big enough to cope with any transport or logistics requirements.

Heathline Commercials

Heathline Commercials Ltd - our sister company, (its name derived from the names of 2 grandchildren, Heather and Caroline – with Caroline now the current MD), commenced trading in 1976 to operate the workshops and service the Moody fleet of trucks. The workshop also manages all vehicle maintenance and service requirements for owner drivers and businesses, including small or medium sized fleets.
